If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…right?

You’ve already embraced change more than you might think

No DIY necessary!

We have all uttered it, but have you ever stopped to think about how dangerous it can be for your business?

That’s right; let’s tackle that immortal phrase “but we’ve always done it this way”.

Most of the time, we don’t say it to be difficult. We say it because we aren’t confident about what we’re faced with. We aren’t sure if we’ve stumbled upon a real solution or something that will be difficult to do and make working life more complicated.

So, how can we determine the help from the headaches and make sure our business keeps up with best-in-class solutions while avoiding the unnecessary?

When change is good, it’s great!

Let’s kick off by looking at some of the positive changes our community has seen lately.

According to a new LinkedIn report, people who work at UK small and medium-sized businesses have higher confidence levels than the average professional. How about that!

“Confidence has risen rapidly over the quarter for those at smaller firms, during a period in which Covid restrictions were still in place but vaccines were rolling out quickly. Across every criterion – job, financial and career confidence – those at small-to-medium firms were more confident than the UK average, and notably more confident than those at the largest companies, where overall confidence levels have fallen in the past quarter”, LinkedIn says.

Why, you ask? There are a few reasons like the economy opening back up, workers feeling more secure in their jobs and the progress made in rolling out vaccinations, as above.

Let’s look at a recent report from AIIM, too, which looks specifically at handling information online.
In their 2021 State of the Intelligent Information Management Industry, AIIM say we should:

  • Embrace flexibility in the wake of COVID
  • Elevate the conversation about information value
  • Create an internal framework to understand and balance both risk AND value
  • Push the business to lead alignment
  • Identify cultural pressure points that can be leveraged

Those five points sound great and achievable, don’t they?
